This vast land located in the town of Hamatonbetsu in northern Hokkaido is approximately 70 minutes by car from Wakkanai and 120 minutes from Asahikawa. Surrounded by nature, this beautiful town has a coastline, mountains, lakes, rivers, and more.

The Charm of Hamatonbetsu Town
Kutcharo Lake in the town is famous as a habitat for swans, with a circumference of about 24 kilometers and a maximum depth of about 117 meters. In addition to swans, many other wild birds also migrate to the lake, and about 290 species of wild birds have been recorded around the lake, including the natural monument of the Steller's Sea Eagle and White-tailed Eagle that winter there. As a result, the area around the lake is known as a picturesque tourist destination surrounded by beautiful nature, and is a charming place for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy activities such as hiking, camping, and wildlife observation.
The Tunibetsu River is a 65-kilometer-long clear stream that runs through the town and offers beautiful natural scenery that Hokkaido is famous for. Activities such as canoeing can also be enjoyed. The Tunibetsu River is also a natural habitat for many wild animals, and various river fish such as rainbow trout, masu salmon, cherry salmon, and salmon can be found, making it a popular spot for anglers.
Hamtombetsu Town is also a region where dairy farming is flourishing, with many dairy farms in the town raising cows and producing milk. In the town of Hamatonbetsu, there are also popular hot springs known for their top-quality water with a high beautifying effect. The spring water is a sodium-chloride-carbonate hydrogen spring, which is said to be effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, coldness, and chronic skin diseases.
The winter snowfall in Hamatonbetsu town can reach up to 2-3 meters on average. During this time, the surrounding mountains are also covered in snow, offering a beautiful winter scenery to enjoy. The Hisashi Ski Resort, located about 17 km from the town center, offers good quality powder snow and is a great place for skiing and snowboarding for beginners to advanced riders.
