As a result, the area around the lake is known as a picturesque tourist destination surrounded by beautiful nature, and is a charming place for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy activities such as hiking, camping, and wildlife observation.

The Tunibetsu River is a 65-kilometer-long clear stream that runs through the town and offers beautiful natural scenery that Hokkaido is famous for. Activities such as canoeing can also be enjoyed. The winter snowfall in Hamatonbetsu town can reach up to 2-3 meters on average. During this time, the surrounding mountains are also covered in snow, offering a beautiful winter scenery to enjoy. The Hisashi Ski Resort, located about 17 km from the town center, offers good quality powder snow and is a great place for skiing and snowboarding for beginners to advanced riders.
